Creative Learning
At The Literature Centre, our Creative Learning Programs connect young people with Australian authors, illustrators, storytellers and artists through engaging, meaningful and curriculum-connected learning experiences.
Our programs support literacy, writing, storytelling, visual literacy and creative thinking, helping students to build confidence, develop their ideas and discover the power of stories.
As the Department of Education’s preferred service provider for literacy, writing and storytelling support services, TLC works with schools across Western Australia to deliver high-quality programs that inspire students and support teachers.

Visual Literacy Workshops
Our Literacy Workshops invite students to explore picture books, illustration, visual storytelling and creative interpretation through discussion, observation and hands-on activities.
Led by our Creative Learning Associates, these workshops support students to develop their ability to read, understand and respond to visual texts, while encouraging creative thinking, connection-making and self-expression.
Workshops can be tailored to suit different year groups, curriculum links and student abilities. Schools can choose to focus on one of our featured picture books, or take part in The Power of Picture Books, an interactive workshop designed to help students understand the creative process behind making picture books.
The Power of Picture Books is ideal for preparing students for picture book competitions, or for supporting primary and secondary curriculum requirements.

Writing Workshops
Our Writing Workshops support students to build confidence, develop their literacy skills, strengthen their creative voice and express their ideas through practical activities, discussion and guided writing exercises.
Led by our Creative Learning Associates, these workshops specialise in Creative Writing, Persuasive Writing and Poetry Writing, and can be tailored to suit different year levels, abilities, curriculum links and student skill sets.
We can also work with schools to create a workshop that responds to specific learning goals, themes or curriculum needs, ensuring each session is engaging, inclusive and accessible for your group.
TLC’s Young Writers program also forms an important part of our writing and literacy development offering. Designed for young people with a passion for writing, Young Writers provides sustained opportunities for students to develop their writing skills, explore ideas, connect with professional writers and build confidence in their creative practice.

Young Writers is designed for students who love writing and are ready to explore their ideas, develop their skills and build confidence in their own voice.
As part of TLC’s writing and literacy development offering, and recognised within our Department of Education agreement as supporting writing workshops and writing skills development, Young Writers provides sustained opportunities for students to engage with Australian authors and storytellers.
Through creative practice, discussion and connection with other young writers, students are encouraged to experiment with language, strengthen their writing skills and develop confidence in their creative expression.
