Arts Against Vaping: Influence Lab
Influence Lab is a creative, youth-led program that supports students to critically explore the influence of vaping culture and misinformation through storytelling. The program equips young people with the tools to analyse messaging, question influence, and create their own informed narratives. Delivered by The Literature Centre in partnership with Healthway, schools and artists, the program equips young people with the tools to analyse messaging, question influence, and create their own informed narratives.
Through creative residencies, artist-led workshops, and a student-curated exhibition, Influence Lab places student voice at the centre of health conversations, using the arts as a platform for learning, reflection, and peer-to-peer engagement.
What the Program Involves
Influence Lab is delivered across the school year and includes:
- Creative Residencies introduce critical thinking, media literacy, and storytelling skills
- Artist-led Workshops across visual, written, digital, and performance-based formats
- A Creative Challenge, where students develop either an anti-vaping campaign or myth-busting work
- Student-curated Exhibition presented in a community space
The program is designed to be preventative, strengths-based, and responsive to young people’s lived experiences.
Why Influence Lab Matters
Young people are increasingly exposed to targeted and misleading messaging around vaping. Influence Lab supports students to:
- Identify and decode persuasive messaging
- Challenge misinformation and social influence
- Build confidence, agency, and creative voice
- Lead conversations about health and wellbeing in their own communities
By centering creativity and critical thinking, the program encourages informed decision-making rather than directive messaging.
Student Work and Creative Outcomes
Throughout the program, students create original works that reflect their perspectives on influence, identity, and health. Selected works may be shared online or presented as part of student-led exhibitions.
Examples of student work may include:
- Visual campaigns and illustrations
- Short films or digital stories
- Written pieces and spoken word
- Performance-based or installation works
Links to student work and exhibition will be added throughout the year as projects develop.
