Indonesian-based author and musician Reda Gaudiamo is coming to Perth
The Literature Centre, in association with our event partners is delighted to offer Perth schools the opportunity to host acclaimed Indonesian author and musician Reda Gaudiamo, who will be joining us in Perth on Wednesday 24 and Friday 26 April 2024 for a series of school incursions, available to book now.
This opportunity is offered free of charge to schools thanks to the generous support of Perth’s Golden Group.
ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE FOR YOUR SCHOOL
Option 1: Workshop: Writing Short Stories
Duration: 60 minutes (suitable for younger students)
90 minutes (suitable for secondary students)
Reda Gaudiamo is an internationally published author of short fiction and an enthusiastic workshop instructor who encourages those who are passionate about writing to never give up on their dreams. In this inspiring workshop, students will be infused with confidence to write their own short tales.
Option 2: Reading and Singing with Reda
Duration: 60 minutes
Age group: secondary students
In this special session created specifically for Perth students of Bahasa Indonesia, Reda Gaudiamo will delight with performances of traditional Indonesian songs and readings (in both English and Bahasa Indonesia) from her stories and novels: The Adventures of Na Willa; Na Willa and the house at the end of the alley; and About Us.
She will also speak about her experience as an author of short fiction for young people and as a composer of both original songs and those based on Indonesian poems.
This is a unique opportunity for students to enhance their appreciation of Indonesian language and culture through engagement with one of Indonesia’s celebrated writers and musicians.

ABOUT REDA GAUDIAMO
Reda (born 1962) is an Indonesian author and musician born in Surabaya in East Java. She is the author of several collections of short stories and books for young adults including the Na Willa series. The adventures of Na Willa; Na Willa and the house at the end of the alley; and Tentang Kita (About Us, 2015), have been published in the UK by Emma Press as well as in Indonesia. She has won several awards for her short fiction and novels, including from Gadis and Femina magazine.
Reda has also worked as a journalist, was the chief editor of Cosmopolitan Indonesia and also a publisher of Kompas Gramedia’s Women and Lifestyle Magazine Division, which included several international lifestyle magazines in Indonesia.
In 2018 Reda was awarded a writer’s residence in the UK by the National Book Committee of Indonesia’s Ministry of Education and Culture. She has been a presenter at international writers festivals including the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival and London Book Fair.
Reda is also known as a musician and singer. For more than 30 years she performed as a duo with her artistic partner, the late Ari Malibu, creating musical interpretations of Indonesian poems. She has also co-produced festivals such as Festival Musikal Indonesia.
