Behind the Walls

Get behind the Old Fremantle Prison walls for an intimate evening with an award-winning author.

Join us for some book chat in a series of evenings behind the walls of Fremantle Prison. We will be in conversation with award-winning authors about the inspiration for their books and their writing process. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your favorite authors, ask them what you’ve always wanted to know, and get your books signed.

We've kicked off our Behind the Walls evenings with Lit Live on Thursday 1 September for a night of spoken word that pairs a diverse selection of written works with dynamic performers, and live music. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased via Eventbrite.

On Thursday 10 November, we will be joined by International best-selling author Dervla McTiernan. Dervla will discuss whether there is such a thing as being too clever in a crime novel. If death is a teacher what has been learned from writing novels? Delve into The Murder Rule with a glass of wine and antipasto platters. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased via Eventbrite

For our final Behind the Walls evening, we will be in discussion with author Holden Sheppard, whose debut novel Invisible Boys won multiple awards and accolades. Holden will discuss what hasn’t been discussed. What happens when an author Horcruxes themselves into their writing? With so much parental rot in a book which comes first: the parent or the teenagers? All this and more with Holden’s favourite, rapid fire. Come and join us on Thursday 24 November with wine and cheese in hand for this incredible event. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased via Eventbrite.

Behind the Walls will be back in 2023.
