Congratulations to our Healthy Poem Competition winners and a BIG thank you to the 218 students who submitted their poems.

This was our most amazing competition to date. We had the most amount of submissions we've ever received for a sponsored competition so we would like to thank everyone that participated.

The judges had a very hard time narrowing down the winning entries and would like to congratulate Hayley from Woodvale Secondary College for her Poem "We Were Happy" for taking first place, her winning poem can be viewed below. Tessa from Rossmoyne Senior High School came in second for her poem "The Musings of an Adolescent", and Scarlett from Murwillumbah East Public School came in third place for her poem "Everyone should eat healthy food".

We were happy The sway of the wheat fields rippled like the water that allowed them to grow

And the silhouette of our old farmhouse cheekily flitted through the apple orchid,

Its fading, white-washed windows framed with the crumbling red bricks we daily gifted with chalk.

On hot days we children climbed the varied fruit trees, collecting oranges and feasting on juicy nectarines.

On the dreary ones we played ferociously in mud and helped our mothers cook roasting potatoes.

We ran freely through the earth, befriending the wildlife with the help of watermelon and wheat, and throwing carefully painted rocks

into the aging cobblestone wishing well.

We waited patiently for our dreams to come true, not realising we had more than enough.

Our smiles were like our stomachs, full and content.

We were happy.

The judges had a very hard time deciding the winning entries and would like to give special mentions to all the students that were shortlisted.
