The Talented Young Writers' Programme for Students
GREAT NEWS! 2020 Talented Young Writers' Programme Author Timetable now released HERE!
Each term, several groups of students come together for a full day workshop with one of Australia’s top Authors for young adults.
The Literature Centre's highly successful Talented Young Writers' Programme (TYWP) has been expanding steadily since 2002, and incorporates these age groups:
This year the programme will again be presented in these locations across Western Australia: Fremantle, Bunbury, Busselton, Albany and Geraldton.
We gratefully acknowledge the Rowley Foundation's regular donations and support of the Talented Young Writers' Programme since 2011. We also thank our new Scholarship donor the Hakea Fund, as introduced by Fremantle Foundation, for their valuable contribution in 2019.
What to Expect:
The purpose of the TYWP is to nurture a group of young writers over several years by exposing them to superb Authors, but also enabling them to meet and form friendships with other like-minded readers and writers. The students find these one day workshops informative, practical, intense, inspiring and fun.
Enrolled students commit to one full day in each of the four school terms. Once the year is completed (4 days), participants are invited to return each consecutive year to engage with new Authors and to further develop their skills.
A typical schedule for the day includes:
The Authors who work with us are carefully chosen because of their list of critically acclaimed publications in many genre, a warm and empowering presentation style, different personalities and backgrounds, and a varied approach to the craft of writing. Each Author is a brilliant teacher of his/her craft. The Literature Centre's Director or Education Officers manage the room each day, working alongside the presenting Author.
“I kept thinking during that week how passionately I would have loved to be part of such a group when I was young.” Isobelle Carmody - Author and programme presenter
“For me, to have been given the opportunity to share with students where my ideas come from, and how my life experiences have shaped my work, has been the most profound and rewarding of teaching experiences.” Matt Ottley – Author/Illustrator and programme presenter
