Author and Illustrator Workshops

The Literature Centre has worked with some of Australia’s most awarded and acclaimed Authors and Illustrators of books for children and young adults since we opened our doors in 1993.

Within our building, the Centre offers a two bedroom residence for interstate or regional WA Authors and Illustrators to stay with us while they conduct school sessions, and also while they create.  Some of our nation’s top picture books resulted in collaborations formed at our Centre between visiting Authors and Illustrators!  Something we are very proud to nurture and support.

There are a number of ways your students can meet, hear from, or workshop with an Author or Illustrator of children’s and young adult literature.  Your students can attend an Author/Illustrator workshop at our Centre or we'll arrange for them to come to your school where they will be 'in-residence'.

Author/Illustrator In-Residence

This is a great opportunity whereby an Author or Illustrator will spend 1 day or multiple days working at your school.  Occasionally, the Centre’s Education Officers may also accompany the Author or Illustrator to assist with the running of the workshops.  Call us to discuss your requirements and we will tailor a suitable residency.

Locally we work with an experienced group of WA Authors and/or Illustrators:

Mark Greenwood, Frané Lessac, James Foley, Norman Jorgensen, AJ Betts, Meg McKinlay, Deb Fitzpatrick, Dianne Wolfer, Raewyn Caisley, Mike Speechley, Julia Lawrinson, Elaine Forrestal, Sally Murphy, Gabriel Evans, Liliana Stafford, Holden Sheppard, Meg Caddy, Rebecca J Palmer, Kitty Black and more!

Of course, we check the availability of these presenters for you and guide you to secure a booking that best suits your needs and dates available.

Duration: 1 or more days.

Suitable: Pre-Primary to Year 12.  Conducted by Author or Illustrator.

Cost: Please contact Natalya Hawrylak (Simon) from our Education team on natalya.simon@thelitcentre.org.au with your request for a quote. Alternatively, phone the Centre on 08 9430 6869.
