School Programmes

The Literature Centre has a range of workshops for students from Pre-Primary to Year 12 and professional learning opportunities for teachers.

Professional Learning for Teachers

The Literature Centre’s workshops and Author/Illustrator in-residence programme provides excellent professional learning for teachers. We also host several professional learning workshop days at our Centre throughout the year, touching on a range of topics, including 'Tackling NAPLAN', 'Make Your Own Picture Book' and 'Picture Books and the Australian Curriculum'.

See attached a recent flyer used in our Conference Programme Booklet to provide an overview of what we can do for Primary Schools - here.  We present similar workshops tailored for Secondary Schools.

For larger teacher groups, we can also conduct Professional Learning at your school in the Perth metro area and regional WA.

For more information and to discuss your needs, please phone our Centre on 08 9430 6869 or email

If you missed our Term 2 Professional Learning session ‘Art of a Master – Inspiration for Creative Writing’, we will be running it again during the school holidays. Teachers will have the opportunity to explore some of the original, awe-inspiring illustrations from Shaun Tan’s latest book, ‘Tales from the Inner City’. Learn how to engage even the most reluctant writer in creative and critical thinking. Discover tips we have learned from some of Australia’s most talented writers and show how using quality picture books in your classroom will enrich secondary students’ writing.

Each participant leaves with practical and inspiring strategies to take straight into the classroom.

Here's what past participants have said they loved about this Professional Learning:

the amazing art and stimulus activitiesrelated to that”

“the practical strategies for writing explicitly”

“great techniques to make the students get ready for creative thinking and writing”
