Join us at The Literature Centre on Thursday 2 December, with partners Healthway and Foodbank WA, as we present a Super Seminar on Nutrition and Visual Literacy.

Enjoy afternoon tea on arrival and browsing in our gallery, followed by 1 hour of Nutrition Education & Cooking in Schools and 1 hour of The Power of Picture Books in the WA Curriculum in the one inspiring seminar.

Suitable for Primary School Teachers, Teacher Librarians, and Pre-Service Teachers.

All attendees receive a welcome bag with information, resources, a voucher, and PL Certificates will be issued.

Schedule - Thursday 2 December:

4:00pm - 4:30pm. Gates open/Afternoon tea/Bookshop open

4:30pm - 5:30pm. Nutrition Education and Cooking in Schools (Foodbank WA)

5:30pm - 6:30pm. The Power of Picture Books (The Literature Centre)

6:30pm - 7:00pm. Bookshop open/Gallery viewing (optional)

You’ll be invited to explore our beautifully restored Centre and meet team members from Foodbank WA, Healthway and The Literature Centre.

The Power of Picture Books in the WA Curriculum

Discover how Literature Workshops using quality Australian picture books can be used in your classroom to achieve Curriculum outcomes. Workshops held at the Centre or in schools satisfy Visual Literacy learning outcomes across all strands of the Western Australian English Curriculum, differentiated for all students.

See how an assessment task suggested by SCSA may be used, and our Education Officers reveal how so many of our exhibitions used in Literature Workshops can provide fun and engaging learning opportunities. Take home tips and resources to inspire you today!

Bookshop & Art: Browse in our Bookshop featuring only Australian picture books and YA Literature. Original art and prints by a range of Australian illustrators are also for sale. EFTPOS facilities are available.

Location: We’re inside the limestone walls of the world heritage-listed Old Fremantle Prison, in the Old Prison Hospital building. Access is via our own pedestrian gate on the corner of Hampton Rd and Knutsford St. No access via the main Prison entrance.

Parking: Free parking is available on the Hampton Road grass, accessible via our gravel car park.
