10 March, 2020

Good afternoon,

The Literature Centre, as is the Department of Education, is acting on advice provided by the WA Department of Health regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Accordingly, we ask all schools whose students are attending the Centre, to refrain from sending any student or staff member who has:

  • left or transited through mainland China in the previous 14 days. They are required to isolate themselves for 14 days from the date of leaving China.

  • left or transited through Iran on or after March 1, 2020. They are required to isolate themselves for 14 days after leaving Iran.

  • left or transited through the Republic of Korea, on or after March 5, 2020. They are required to isolate themselves for 14 days after leaving Korea.

  • been informed by public health authorities that they have been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus, must isolate themselves for 14 days after the date of last contact with the confirmed case.

It is anticipated that these measures will be extended to those who have left or transited through Italy and other countries.

As is normal practice, please do not send students to our Centre who are unwell in any way, but particularly those with flu-like symptoms like coughing, sneezing or fever.  Please refer to the WA Health Department information regarding symptoms.

We are, of course, reminding all students to wash their hands with the soap provided.

Presumably, if schools are following the Department of Health’s guidelines, the same students and staff would not be attending schools where our Education Officers and contracted authors and illustrators are in residence this term.  We ask schools to inform us, in advance of any such residences, if there is a current health risk associated with COVID-19.

This information is current as of March 10, 2020.

Please be assured, as always, of our very best intentions, not only to provide wonderful programmes for your students but also to provide the best possible environment for them.

Warmest wishes,

Lesley Reece AM
