After postponing our treasured event back in April, we are so excited to have rescheduled the Australian Storytellers Festival for Sunday 15 November in Fremantle. We hope you can join us to see and hear from 8 WA Authors & Illustrators who will be presenting a range of fun and engaging sessions the whole family will love.  Gates will open 9.30am and close 3pm.  Multiple sessions will be held between 10am and 2.30pm.

Ticketing Info

Entry is FREE thanks to our partner Lotterywest but tickets must be reserved for sessions, especially to monitor our venue capacities.  On our Eventbrite page, we've indicated the WA Government safety guidelines around COVID-19, and how you can help!

The full program for the day and how to reserve your free tickets for entry can be found on our downloadable flyer HERE

Note: Tickets will be released 4pm, Saturday 24 October, 2020 (WST).  Visit Eventbrite HERE

Presenting Authors and Illustrators

Don't miss our literary celebration with this TALENTED line-up of talented Australian authors and illustrators of children’s and young adult literature:

Brenton E. McKenna (WA)

Briony Stewart (WA)

Cristy Burne (WA)

Frané Lessac (WA)

Gavin Aung Than (WA)

James Foley (WA)

Jen Banyard (WA)

Mark Greenwood (WA)

We are sad to be missing the amazing Deb Abela from NSW, given the current COVID-19 border situation.

Program and Timings for the Day

As per our Festival schedule each year, there will be sessions of approximately 45 minutes running concurrently (some 30 minutes, some 1 hour depending on content).  Two galleries and a marquee on the lawn will be our venues.  Book sales and book signing opportunities will be available after each session.

NEW TO THE FESTIVAL!  Take a look at our unique competition for budding young writers 8-12 years of age.

To utilise our small gallery, we were keen to create two small but special sessions with exciting WA Young Adult Authors, Cristy Burne and Jen Banyard.  Find out all the details and enter this fabulous competition (easy entry form!) in our latest news HERE.

Note: you will not find these two sessions on Eventbrite. The only way to attend is to send in the entry form. Winners will also receive a free book pack each thanks to Fremantle Press.  A parent will be asked to accompany each child who enters the competition and is accepted to attend on the day.

Remember, select the sessions that you want to attend via Eventbrite.  Tickets must be shown at our gate on the day for entry.

Waitlist Note: Should a session book out, or if there aren't enough tickets left for what you need, please email nicole.clarke@thelitcentre.org.au with your name, session titles, total number of tickets and your mobile phone number, in case we have cancellations. Alternatively, try booking on the Eventbrite website closer to the event in case tickets have been released.

Location and Parking

We’re located inside the limestone walls of the world heritage-listed Old Fremantle Prison, in the old Prison Hospital building.  Access is via our own pedestrian gate and not via the main Prison entrance.  We are wheelchair accessible with suitable toilet facilities onsite.

Parking is available in the Parry Street carpark, near the Fremantle Oval and Fremantle Markets. Simply walk along Holdsworth Street, following the limestone walls onto Knutsford Street to our gate at the top of the hill.  Limited parking may be available on our grass reserve on Hampton Road near our gate, or in nearby streets.  Please check signs for restrictions.

Note: On the day we request visitors BYO water bottles and/or snacks and lunch as only limited food and beverages will be available to purchase at our special coffee and snacks cart thanks to our catering friends, The Black Truffle. Chairs, tables and market umbrellas will be on our grassed areas for breaks in between sessions.

Our Supporters

The Literature Centre would like to acknowledge funding support gratefully received from Lotterywest.  Remember, when you play Lotto in Western Australia you are supporting so many free community events, charities and arts organisations throughout our state.

We also wish to thank donors, Liz and Peter Jones, for their ongoing support of this community event, and our thanks to Fremantle Press for supporting our 'Win A Writing Session With An Author' Competition.
