Perth Festival Writers Week Events at TLC 18-21 February 2019

We thoroughly enjoyed hosting four HUGE nights as part of the Perth Festival Writers Week 'Out & About' Program. It was great to see so many new faces and long-time supporters!  Stay in touch with upcoming events by finding us on Facebook or joining our mailing list on our website home page.

We're thrilled to be part of the Perth Festival Writers Week in 2019.  For the first time, we're hosting four FREE 'OUT & ABOUT' AUTHOR EVENTS.  Read all about them in the Writers Week program HERE.

Although these events are FREE, attendees MUST BOOK seats via the Perth Festival website by searching for your favourite author and following the links.  Note: all Out & About author events at The Literature Centre is free seating so first in, first choice on the night.

We suggest you book now as space is limited.  Which evening will you choose to attend?  One... or more! 

LOCATION AND PARKING - Important Information
The Literature Centre is located on the corner of Hampton Rd and Knutsford St, within the limestone walls of the Old Fremantle Prison.  Access to the Centre is not possible via the main Old Fremantle Prison entrance.  Please ensure you come to our entrance gate for all events.  Our Centre, main gallery and toilets are wheelchair accessible.

A limited amount of free parking is available on the grassed reserve along Hampton Rd, accessible only by driving up Knutsford St, off Holdsworth St in Fremantle (see google maps).  Alternatively, please find street parking or ample parking in the Parry Street carpark nearby.  Plan ahead so that you can find us!  The gate will be open from 5.45pm.

Monday 18 February, 6.00pm for 6.30pm   (SOLD OUT)

Crime Between the Pages

Author: Dervla McTiernan

Duration: 60 minutes

Join Irish born, Perth based writer, Dervla McTiernan to launch The Scholar, the eagerly anticipated sequel to her first novel, the acclaimed crime fiction, The Ruin.

Is this the Real Life? Is this just Fantasy?

Authors: Meg McKinlay and AJ (Amanda) Betts

Duration: 60 minutes

Recent speculative fiction novels - A Single Stone and Hive - feature female protagonists in enclosed societies.  Authors Meg McKinlay and AJ (Amanda) Betts discuss the creation of these unique and thought provoking worlds.

It’s All About the Voice

Author: Dr Lucy Christopher

Duration: 60 minutes

Join Dr Lucy Christopher, internationally acclaimed academic, teacher and writer of YA fiction, to find out more about developing an authentic teenage voice and to indulge in some serious creative play!   

Whether you write for fun or to be published, this is the event for you. Lucy is an acclaimed YA author of 'Stolen' and 'The Killing Woods' and Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing to Post Graduate students at Bath Spa University. She will talk about her latest novel, 'Storm-Wake', inspired by Shakespeare’s 'The Tempest'. Lucy will then discuss developing an authentic teenage voice and share her craft of writing.

 

Thursday 21 February, 6.00pm for 6.30pm (SOLD OUT!)

Growing with Every Book

Author: Markus Zusak

Duration: 60 minutes

Markus Zusak discusses the trajectory of his career and Bridge of Clay - what it took for him to start, live with it, finish it and why it had to be hard.   

 

Note: If SOLD OUT you can WAITLIST your interest in an event via host, The Literature Centre, email info@thelitcentre.org.au with contact name, email, and ticket quantity.  Of course, no guarantees that tickets will cancel but we'll contact waitlist people should space become available.
