Anna Walker writes and illustrates children's books and is based in Melbourne. Her charming studio is shared with a printmaker, 'Rosy' the lamp, a few friendly plants, and knitted, woolly creatures. Working with pencil, ink and collage, Anna develops her characters and enjoys spending time with them before they venture out into the world. Her imagery is inspired by tiny details in the world around her. Some of her books that she has also illustrated include; Peggy, Fairy Tales, I Don’t Believe in Dragons, I love to Dance, Starting School and Lets Play House.
Anna began freelancing as an illustrator after completing a Bachelor or Graphic Design with Honors, in Melbourne, Australia in 1993. She worked at The Age newspaper part time for one year as a designer/illustrator, and left to work in a shared studio with other illustrators and designers. Anna has been illustrating since then, mainly for magazines, publishers, designers, and gift cards in Australia, US, and UK.
In Australia, Anna has won numerous children’s book design and writing awards, including several accolades for Peggy. The artwork and stories she’s created in her studio have reached young readers worldwide. Some awards that Anna has won include; 2013 Early Childhood Short List: Peggy, Prime Minister’s Literary Awards 2013: Today We Have No Plans, 2011 CBCA Awards Early Childhood Notables: I Don’t Believe in Dragons. Lets Play House won best Children’s Series Design in 2010 and I Love to Dance won best Children’s Series Design.
The Literature Centre has had the pleasure of exhibiting some of Anna's picture book artwork including Little Cat and the Big Red Bus and Peggy.
