13-16 June, 2017

WORDS   IMAGES   MUSIC!

The Literature Centre, in partnership with WASO and Yamaha, is proud to present 'The Sound of Picture Books'.

These unique multi-modal workshops are back with a choice of two very different performances.  One, featuring Parachute by Danny Parker and Matt Ottley and the other, Home and Away by John Marsden and Matt Ottley.

Don’t miss this opportunity for your secondary students to participate in this powerful and thought-provoking interpretation of Home and Away or the delightful, fun-packed Parachute for primary age.

All performances will be tailored to the age groups attending and will feature WASO’s superb string quintet, Yamaha’s Alf Demasi, narration by Danny Parker and Matt Ottley’s illustrations shown on a large screen.  Matt will also demonstrate his illustration and music composition techniques.

Parachute - By Danny Parker and Matt Ottley. It is the first thing he puts on each morning. It helps him deal with all kinds of tricky situations, such as getting out of bed, sliding off a chair, and riding his bike. But sometimes someone else's trouble can be greater than your own, and this is what Toby discovers one day. This is powerful and fantastical story about a fearful child finding his independence.

Home and Away - By John Marsden and Matt Ottley. Is a compelling and confronting story of one Australian family as they suffer the hardships and terrors of war. The audience will respond to the message, within this remarkable book that each of us wants and deserves a home.
